One award will be distributed during the RBSLM Annual Meeting.
Requirements:
Application procedure:
The beMedTech Award recognizes outstanding scientific contributions that demonstrate the clinical and economic value of In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) tests within the healthcare system. The primary goal of the award is to highlight how IVD tests contribute to healthcare sustainability, optimized care pathways, and reduced overall healthcare expenditure (e.g., preventing unnecessary hospitalizations or redundant procedures).
-
Mandatory Eligibility Criteria
Abstracts must meet all the following conditions to be considered for evaluation:
- Generic Test Focus: The abstract must focus on a generic IVD analyte, marker, or technology. Submissions mentioning commercial brand names, trademarked products, or proprietary manufacturer platforms will be disqualified.
- CE-IVD tests: The subject must be a standardized, commercially available IVD test.
- Integration into a care pathway/Economic impact: The abstract must evaluate the clinical or economic impact of a generic IVD test (can include also multiplex assays) or its integration into a care pathway.
- Ethics & Compliance: The study must comply with applicable ethical guidelines and Belgian/European regulations for medical diagnostic research.
-
Weighted Selection Criteria
Eligible abstracts will be evaluated across four core categories:
A. Health-Economic Value & Efficiency
- Cost Avoidance & Impact: Demonstrates a measurable potential to reduce healthcare costs (e.g., preventing unnecessary hospital admissions, shortening length of stay, …).
- Resource Optimization: Demonstrates efficient use of diagnostic resources that contributes to the long-term financial sustainability of the healthcare system.
B. Care Pathway
- Right Care, Right Time, Right Place: Evaluates whether the test enables timely decision-making at the appropriate level of care (e.g., primary care triage, rapid emergency decision-making, specialized care).
C. Reimbursement relevance and patient value
- Reimbursement readiness & dossier Value: Relevance of the clinical and economic data in providing the necessary evidence base required by decision bodies (e.g., Article 24, 24bis, 33, or specific convention pathways) to establish or update the nomenclature.
- Or democratizing Access: Demonstrates how public reimbursement would ensure equitable access across all socio-economic groups, removing out-of-pocket barriers.
D. Scientific Rigor
- Clinical Validity & Utility: Provides solid scientific evidence linking test results to improved clinical outcomes and decision-making, integrating current scientific literature and clinical expertise.
Application Deadline: September 24, 2026 - 23:59
